Modern name for a site in lower Nubianear the end of the Second Cataract. Ancient Egyptian Iken. The area was the location of a Dynasty 12 fort that served as a major tradingcenter and entrepot. The site was excavated by a French expedition before the region was flooded by Lake Nasser, the lake formed by the waters of the Aswan High Dam.
