Sri Lanka [Sri Lanka]
an island off the southern tip of ↑India. Its capital city is Colombo and its official language is Sinhalese. When it was part of the ↑British Empire (1802–1948) it was called Ceylon. It is a member of the Commonwealth and one of the world’s most important tea ↑producers. In Britain, many people still refer to Ceylon tea.
