to produce specific antibodies in response to the presence of an antigen (e.g. a vaccine or a virus). In AIDS patients seroconversion n. occurs within 4-6 weeks of the initial HIV infection. It is marked by a sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, fever, aches and pains, and fatigue.
