[TA] oculomotor nerve: third cranial nerve; origin, brainstem, emerging medial to cerebral peduncles and running forward in the cavernous sinus; branches, superior and inferior rami; distribution, entering the orbit through the superior orbital fissure, the branches supply the levator palpebrae superioris, all extrinsic eye muscles except the lateral rectus and superior oblique, and carry parasympathetic fibers for the ciliaris and sphincter pupillae muscles; modality, motor and parasympathetic.
