the growth phase of a hair follicle, lasting two to three years. It is followed by a transitional stage, called catagen, which lasts for about two weeks, and then a resting phase, telogen. On average about 85% of hairs are in anagen and hence growing actively. There are about 100, 000 hairs on the human scalp and up to 100 may be shed each day.
