Scottish Gaelic: traditional name, probably originally a byname meaning ‘handsome, fair one’. This is one of the two names that have merged in the Anglicized form KENNETH (SEE Kenneth), and it remains in common use in the Highlands. From it is derived the surname MacKenzie (Gaelic Mac Coinnich).
