Maura f
1 English, Scottish, and Irish: of Celtic origin. St Maura was a 5th-century martyr, of whom very little is known; her companion is variously named as Britta (of Celtic origin) and Baya (of Latin origin). In Ireland Maura is now commonly regarded as a form of MARY (SEE Mary) (cf. MOIRA (SEE Moira) and MAUREEN (SEE Maureen)).
Cognate (of 2): Russian: Mavra.
