Ismene f
Name borne in classical mythology by a daughter of Oedipus. Like the names of her mother Jocasta and her sister Antigone, it has been used occasionally in modern times by parents looking for an unusual name, in spite of the grim fate of the house of Oedipus. After Oedipus has blinded himself on discovering that he has killed his father and that Jocasta is not only his wife but also his mother, Ismene deserts her father, while Antigone stays with him and supports him.
