Jocasta
Jocasta f
English: name borne in classical legend by the mother of Oedipus, King of Thebes. As the result of a series of misunderstandings, she also became his wife and the mother of his children. The derivation of her name is not known. In spite of its tragic associations, the name has enjoyed a certain vogue in recent years. The names of her daughters, Antigone and Ismene, have been occasionally used since the Middle Ages, but there has been no move to take up those of her sons, Eteodes and Polynices.
