Hoover Dam [Hoover Dam]
a large ↑dam on the Colorado River on the border of ↑Nevada and ↑Arizona. It was completed in 1935 and originally called Boulder Dam. In 1947 the name was changed in honour of the US President Herbert ↑Hoover. It is 726 feet/221 metres high and 1 244 feet/379 metres wide, and it produces electricity for Arizona, Nevada and southern ↑California.
