Far from the Madding Crowd [Far from the Madding Crowd]
a novel (1874) by Thomas Hardy. It is a love story about a farm worker, Gabriel Oak, and the woman who owns the farm where he works. He wants to marry her but she has relationships with several other men who seem more exciting to her. In the end she agrees to marry Gabriel.
