Dean Acheson [Dean Acheson]

(1893–1971) a US ↑diplomat. He directed the ↑Marshall Plan to help Europe after World War II and, as ↑Secretary of State under President Truman, helped in 1949 to create the ↑North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He received a ↑Pulitzer Prize in 1970 for his book Present at the Creation: My Years in the State Department. Great Britain has lost an empire and has not yet found a role. Dean Acheson 1962
