Crazy Horse [Crazy Horse]
(c. 1849–77) a ↑Native American leader of the ↑Sioux people. In 1876 he and ↑Sitting Bull defeated General Custer and his soldiers at the Battle of Little Bighorn. He was captured and put in prison the following year, and was killed while trying to escape. A large Crazy Horse Memorial, showing him riding a horse, is being carved into Thunderhead Mountain in ↑South Dakota.
