a western US state which is one of the ↑Rocky Mountain States. About two-thirds of the population are ↑Mormons. It was named after the ↑Ute ↑Native American people, and its popular name is the Beehive State. Other Native Americans, such as the ↑Navajo, lived in the area when the Mormons began to settle there in 1847. It became a state in 1896. Its products include ↑cattle, pigs, ↑copper, gold, silver, oil and medical instruments. Tourist attractions include the ↑Great Salt Lake, the ↑Rainbow Bridge and ↑Zion National Park.
