Rite of transfer. An example of sengu. The transfer of the kami of the Wakamiya Shrine in Nara from the shrine to a temporary abode (o-tabisho) for the On-Matsuri. The transfer takes place on 17 December and includes private priestly rites, repeated announcements to the kami and a mile-long torch-lit procession of fifty priests dressed in white, accompanied by musicians and chanting in monotone.
