The first volume of a trilogy by the Norwegian immigrant writer Ole E. Rølvaag, Giants in the Earth: A Saga ofthe Prairie (1927) was a translation by Lincoln Colcord of two novels, written in Norwegian and published in Norway, entitled Ide dage (1924; In Those Days) and Riket grundlægges (1925; The Kingdom Is Founded), which tell the story of a handful of emigrants from Rølvaag's home district of Helgeland in northern Norway who settle on the prairie of America's Dakota Territory.
