(active 1346-1366)
Lombard painter who settled in Florence in the 1360s. His earliest signed work is the Polyptych with Madonna and Saints dated 1355 (the Prato Polyptych), created for the Spedale della Misericordia, the most ancient charitable institution in Prato (now in the Prato Museo Civico). In 1365 he frescoed for Lapo di Lizio Guidalotti the Rinuccini Chapel in the Church of Santa Croce, Florence, with scenes from the lives of the Virgin and Mary Magdalen, each told in five episodes. Also in 1365, he painted the Pietà (Florence, Accademia), a work he signed and dated and that represents one of the earliest examples of the subject in Florence.
