specie, species
Specie means "coined money" or "coins." This word is a collective noun and has no plural: "The specie of France and that of Great Britain do not closely resemble each other." "The payment must be in specie." Species has only one form for singular and plural in the meaning of a class with common characteristics: "What species of monkey is this?" One cannot refer to a category of organisms as a specie: "The Anopheles punctipennis is a species (not specie) of mosquito."
