(Lat., blank tablet or slate) The term used by scholastics, e.g. Aquinas (Summa, Ia 79. 2) to indicate the state of a mind on which no sensation has been impressed. It is frequently used to describe the similar contention of Locke that there are no innate ideas . See also nihil in intellectu nisi prius in sensu .
