anus envy
n.
A longing to emulate the behavior of obnoxious TV and radio personalities.
Example Citation:
Anus envy: The practice by fans of The Jerky Boys, Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh, and others of trying to emulate - or outdo - their idols.
— Gareth Branwyn, "Jargon Watch," Wired, November, 1995
Notes:
Unfortunately, this great phrase (a brilliant play on penis envy) still hasn't travelled outside of the confines of Wired's Jargon Watch column. I've checked the Web and numerous media databases, and I've found no citations for this sense of the phrase (although I did see a few citations that seemed to have something to do with anal sex, but those don't count). So, sadly, we must still leave this in the Stunt Word file. (A stunt word is a nonce word coined just to show off.)
