BABYLONIAN
Linguistic term for an east Semitic dialect of Mesopotamia since the beginning of the second millennium B.C. There are certain differences between Old, Middle, and Neo-Babylonian. The Babylonian cursives of cuneiform tablets can be distinguished from the Assyrian examples by a preference for archaic styles and greater complexity of form.
