Secrete et singillatim
Lit. 'secretly and one by one'. These were the terms under which a bishop or his agent, e.g. archdeacon, conducted interviews during the *visitation of a monastery. The purpose was to ensure there was no exertion of pressure or collusion in the giving of evidence of any wrongdoing. -
