1) Lances varied in length between 10 and 14 feet (3-4.2 m). They were made from ash wood; in war they were tipped with iron or steel. -

2) A unit of armed men supporting a *knight on the battlefield, i.e. a *squire, some foot soldiers, and archers. The numbers would depend on the financial resources of the knight.
