Glossa Ordinaria
Lit. 'regular or standard gloss'. The Glossa of the *Vulgate was begun in the school of Laon under Anselm of Laon (d. 1117) and added between the lines of text. However, it drew upon earlier collections which had been used since the 7c. Bede laid the foundation for the gloss with his work on the Acts. The Glossa contains both marginal and interlinear comments. It was drawn almost exclusively from the works of the fathers and was finished by the mid-12c. -
