a synthetic nonsteroidal compound (see anti-oestrogen) that induces ovulation and subsequent menstruation in women who fail to ovulate and is used in the treatment of infertility. It is also used to stimulate ovulation (see superovulation) for some procedures of assisted conception (e.g. IVF) and to treat some cases of male infertility. Trade name: Clomid.
