rubeosis iri·dis -'ī-rəd-əs n abnormal redness of the iris resulting from neovascularization and often associated with diabetes

growth of blood vessels onto the iris, usually as a result of ischaemia of the eye. This occurs, for example, in diabetic retinopathy and central retinal vein occlusion.

a condition characterized by formation of new blood vessels and connective tissue on the surface of the iris, frequently seen in diabetics (r. iґridis diabeґtica) and following occlusion of the central retinal vein or artery. If untreated, it can develop into severe, intractable glaucoma.
