ac·id phos·pha·tase (asґid fosґfə-tās) [EC 3.1.3.2] an enzyme of the hydrolase class that catalyzes the cleavage of orthophosphate from orthophosphoric monoesters under acid conditions. The enzyme is found in mammalian liver, spleen, bone marrow, plasma and formed blood elements, and prostate gland.
