Ma·rey mȧ-rā Étienne-Jules (1830-1904)
French physiologist. Marey contributed greatly to the development of experimental physiology. In 1860 he invented the sphygmograph, an instrument for recording the features of the pulse and variation in blood pressure on a graph. In 1861 he formulated Marey's law.
