an antidepressant drug that acts by prolonging the action of the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-hydroxy-tryptamine) in the brain (see SSRI). It is administered by mouth. Possible side-effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, insomnia, anxiety, fever, skin rash, and convulsions. Trade name: Prozac.
