koi·lo·cy·to·sis (koi″lo-si-toґsis) [koilo- + cyt- + -osis] the presence of abnormal koilocytes that are vacuolated with clear cytoplasm or perinuclear halos and nuclear pyknosis. It is often seen in infections by human papillomavirus of epithelial layers of the uterine cervix or external anal or genital areas.
