an operation for congenital glaucoma (see buphthalmos). A fine knife is used to make an incision into Schlemm's canal from within the eye. It is the first stage of goniopuncture.

go·ni·ot·o·my (go″ne-otґə-me) [gonio- + -tomy] an operation for types of glaucoma characterized by an open angle and normal depth of the anterior chamber; it consists of the opening of Schlemm canal under direct vision secured by a contact glass.
