Actinic keratosis

A small rough spot on skin chronically exposed to the sun, precancerous, can develop into a skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma, a process that typically takes years. Actinic keratoses occur most frequently in fair-skinned people. Common locations are the face, scalp, back of the neck, upper chest, forearm and back of the hand.

a sharply outlined, red or skin-colored, flat or elevated, verrucous or keratotic growth that sometimes develops into a cutaneous horn or gives rise to a squamous cell carcinoma. It usually affects the middle-aged or elderly, especially those of fair complexion, and is caused by excessive exposure to the sun. Called also senile or solar k.
