an·ti·py·rine (an″te-piґrēn) [USP] a pyrazolone analgesic and antipyretic. Because it can cause agranulocytosis, it has been replaced by safer and more effective agents. Now used as a component of antipyrine and benzocaine otic solution; as a component of antipyrine, benzocaine, and phenylephrine otic solution; and complexed with chloral hydrate in dichloralphenazone. Called also phenazone.
