an·dro·stene·di·one (an″dro-stēn-diґōn) (-stēnґde-ōn) an anabolic-androgenic steroid produced by the testis, adrenal cortex, and ovary, occurring as two types, Δ4-androstenedione and Δ5-androstenedione. Androstenediones can be converted metabolically to testosterone and other androgens.
