spiral arteries
spiral endometrial arteries tightly coiled branches of the uterine radial arteries, which supply the endometrium and in pregnancy supply blood to the intervillous space. During the secretory phase of the menstrual cycle they become more prominent; if pregnancy does not occur, they become constricted, with consequent necrosis of the endometrial tissues that results in menstruation.
