Botan
For many centuries this Kurdish emirate in what is now southeastern Turkey was ruled by a family claiming descent from Khalid ibn Walid, one of the Prophet Muhammad's most famous generals. Cizre was its capital. The emirate reached its greatest period of expansion and final demise under Bedir Khan Beg in the 1840s. Kurdish nationalists today often refer to much of southeastern Turkey as Botan.
