Beg
This was originally a feudal title given to the main chief of a tribe and simply added to his name. The title khan was similarly used. With the demise of feudalism, these titles have fallen out of use. The term beg was also used by the Ottoman Empire for a military commander of a district who was appointed by the sultan. Over the years the precise meaning of this honorific changed, leading to difficulties in defining its precise meaning.
