Kurdish Human Rights Project
(KHRP)
The Kurdish Human Rights Project (KHRP) is a Kurdish advocacy organization based in London. The KHRP monitors human rights abuses against Kurds within the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and the Caucasus. It also is a frequent participant in cases brought to the European Court of Human Rights, the judicial arm of the European Union (EU). As such, the KHRP has achieved some spectacular results in publicizing abuses against the Kurds and obtaining legal remedies. However, it does not take any political positions.
Established in December 1992, the KHRP is registered as a company limited by guarantee and is also a registered charity. Kerim Yildiz is its executive director, while Mark Muller is the chairman of its board of directors. The KHRP is also a founding member of the EU Turkey Civic Commission (EUTCC), which advocates Turkish accession to the EU as a means to help solve the Kurdish problem in that state, provided that Turkey meets the qualification for EU membership. It maintains a website at www.khrp.org.
