Palestinian tanna. A pupil of Akiva, he was a member of the Sanhedrin at Usha after the Hadrianic persecutions. He was sometimes known as Rabbi Meir Baal ha-Nes. His Mishnah was one of the main sources of the Mishnah of Judah ha-Nasi. His wife, Beruryah, was also an outstanding scholar.
