Nakamura Shin’ichiro was a novelist born in Tokyo and raised by his maternal grandparents in Shizuoka Prefecture. Nakamura graduated from Tokyo University, where he made the acquaintance of literary figures Fukunaga Takehiko, Hori Tatsuo, and Kato Shuichi. His works crossed multiple genres, including translating works from French and Chinese. He won the Tanizaki Jun’ichiro Prize for Natsu (Summer, 1978) and the Yomiuri Prize for Kakizaki Hakyo no shogai (Life of Kakizaki Hakyo, 1989).
