Yolande
Yolande f
English and French: of uncertain origin. It is found in Old French in this form, and seems to be ultimately of Germanic origin, but if so it has been changed beyond recognition by attempted associations with various Greek and Latin elements. It is also sometimes identified with the name of St Jolenta (d. 1298), daughter of the king of Hungary; her name is also occasionally rendered as HELEN (SEE Helen).
Variant: English: Yolanda.
Cognates: Italian: Jolanda. Polish: Jolanta.
Czech: Jolan(t)a. Hungarian: Jolán.
Pet form: Polish: Jola.
