Waldemar m
German, Scandinavian, and Dutch: from an old Germanic personal name composed of the elements wald rule + māri, mēri famous. This was the name of four kings of Denmark, in particular Waldemar the Great (ruled 1157–82). The name itself is ultimately a cognate of VLADIMIR (SEE Vladimir) and has been used as a Germanic equivalent or translation of that name.
