Arye
Arye m
Jewish: meaning ‘lion’ in Hebrew. The lion is traditionally associated with the name JUDAH (SEE Judah), Hebrew YEHUDA (SEE Yehuda), because of Jacob's words in his dying blessing: ‘Judah is a lion’s whelp' (Genesis 49: 9). It became common during the Middle Ages when such animal names were popular in Europe and is often used together with the Yiddish name LEIB (SEE Leib).
