Randy m, f
English (esp. U.S. and Australian): as a male name this originated as a pet form of RANDALL (SEE Randall), RANDOLF (SEE Randolf), or, in some cases, ANDREW (SEE Andrew). As a female name it may have originated either as a transferred use of the male name or else as a pet form of MIRANDA (SEE Miranda) (cf. RANDA (SEE Randa)). It is now fairly commonly used as an independent name, mainly by men, in spite of the unfortunate connotations of the slang term randy meaning ‘lustful’.
Variants: Randi, Randie f.
