Ned m
English: short form of EDWARD (SEE Edward), originating in the misdivision of phrases such as mine Ed (cf. NAN (SEE Nan)). It was common in the Middle Ages and up to the 18th century, but in the 19th was almost entirely superseded in the role of short form by TED (SEE Ted). It is now, however, enjoying a modest revival.
