Nancy f
English: of uncertain origin. From the 18th century it was used as a pet form of ANN (SEE Ann) (cf. NAN (SEE Nan)), but it may originally have been a similar formation deriving from the common medieval given name ANNIS (SEE Annis). Nowadays it is an independent name, and was especially popular in America between about 1920 and 1960. In the 1980s it came to prominence as the name of President Reagan's wife.
