Menahem m
Jewish: name meaning ‘comforter’ in Hebrew. It was borne in the Scriptures by an evil king of Israel who massacred pregnant women (2 Kings 15: 14–18), but the name has nevertheless always been a popular one among Jews; in earlier times it was given particularly to a child born after the death of a sibling and seen as a comfort to his parents. See also MENDEL (SEE Mendel).
Variant: Menachem.
