Mariamne f
The form of MIRIAM (SEE Miriam) used by the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, writing in Latin in the 1st century BC, as the name of the wife of King Herod. On the basis of this evidence, it has been thought by some to be closer to the original form of the name actually borne by the Virgin MARY (SEE Mary), and has therefore been bestowed in her honour.
