Eileen f
Irish and English: Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Eibhlín or Aibhilin, derived from Norman-French AVELINE (SEE Aveline). The combination bh is normally pronounced as v, but sometimes dropped, as reflected in the Anglicized spelling. This name became tremendously popular in the early part of the 20th century, but the reasons for this sudden rise in favour are not known.
Variant: Aileen (esp. Scottish).
