Ludmila
Ludmila f
Russian and Czech: from an old Slavonic personal name composed of the elements lud people, tribe (apparently a borrowing from Germanic liut) + mil grace, favour. St Ludmila (d. 921) was a duchess of Bohemia and grandmother of St Wenceslas; she was murdered on the orders of her mother-in-law and came to be regarded as a martyr. The name is now also occasionally used in the English-speaking world, where it is usually spelled Ludmilla.
Variant: Czech: Lidmila.
Cognate: Polish: Ludmita.
